Our
thoughts about the project week in Sweden
All in all the project has worked out very well. Our programme was well-planned and varied and it gave our European guests a chance to see different places and experience various things.
Arrivals went well in spite of some problems for Eva-Lena who got some extra work since our Spanish guests informed us that they would have to spend the night in Germany. As things turned out they managed to catch their flight and arrived quite late on Monday evening.
On Tuesday morning we all gathered in the school restaurant. The headmaster made a short speech, welcoming our guests to Klarebergsskolan, the choir sang and the students got a beautifully written nameplate. Pictures were taken and then it was time for a short guided tour around the school.
The teachers were invited to our staff room to have a glass of mulled wine (alcohol free of course) and got a chance to meet some of our colleagues. After lunch we went to Eriksberg where we had a nice guided tour on Ostindiefararen. We left Eriksberg on Älvsnabben in the sunset and got off at the Opera house. The students from Europe spent the night with their Swedish hosts and quite a few of them decided to have dinner at IKEA. The teachers had a nice dinner at Linnéterrassen.
On Wednesday the students were divided into groups. They took turns to visit classes and prepare the dishes in the kitchen. The teachers could work for a few hours but unfortunately there were problems with the computers and the guest accounts. The communicator from Norra Hisingen visited us and interviewed all visiting teachers. In the afternoon we went to the City Hall, where we were received by the deputy mayor. We were offered something to eat and drink and then there was time for some strolling about the city. In the evening we met at school and the students made the preparations for the Nobel party in our staff room. We ate the food the students had prepared and it was much appreciated. Our former student Josefine gave a short informative speech on Alfred Nobel.
Thursday was the day for the trip into the southern archipelago of Gothenburg. The day didn´t start well as the bus we had booked failed to turn up. After some waiting we finally managed to catch the ferry at Saltholmen and could enjoy the beautiful scenery. We had a nice lunch at the beautiful Brännö Inn before it was time to return to the ferry. In the afternoon we met at Liseberg for our last night together. The students enjoyed skating and for some of them this was the first time.
We watched an amazing ice show, The Snow Queen, based on HC Andersen´s fairy tale. Some of us tried the Ferris wheel, a scary experince but appreciated by some. The students enjoyed the evening at Liseberg a lot.
On Friday morning we met at school for Lucia which we celebrate in the dark month of December.
The students and the teachers were invited to the school cafeteria for some fika. They tasted the saffron bread (Lucia cats) some of the students had made on Wednesday and then it was time to say goodbye. The Spanish guests stayed on till Saturday so the Spanish students could spend another day with their Swedish hosts.
